As of 2017, we highly recommend that you submit digital video files such as a MP4 instead of miniDV or DVCAM
We can transcribe from your miniDV and DVCAM clones.
There are a couple of caveats:
- We must first dub them to DVD, for which you will be charged.
- Turnaround time is slower because of dubbing must be done first.
- DO NOT SEND YOUR MASTERS, only clones.
Duplication:
Before we can work with your footage from miniDV or DVCAM, we must first duplicate it to DVD. We bill DVD duplication at the following rates:
DVD Duplication Rates |
||
Length | First Copy | Additional Copies |
---|---|---|
<= 30 minutes | $20.00 |
$10.00 |
<= 60 minutes | $30.00 |
$10.00 |
each additional 5 minutes | $2.50 |
Thus if you have one DVCAM tape that is 15 minutes long and one DVCAM tape that is 68 minutes long you would be billed:
$20.00 for the 15 minute tape and ($30 + $2.50 x 2) = $35 for the 68 minute tape for a grand total of $55.00.
Additional copies are available at client request for $10 per copy. (limit 3 additional copies per original tape)
If your order is requesting Timecoded Transcripts, the DVDs will be created with window burn (BITC). If you want both a Window Burn and Non-Window Burn version, then you will be charged the First Copy price twice.
We do not duplicate DVCAM or miniDV tapes unless part of a transcription order.
Effect On Transcription Turnaround Times
Since we are not really a duplication facility, sending us materials to be dubbed to DVD before transcription will extend the turnaround time of the transcription. We only have one DVD duplication bay.
Thus if you have only 1 or 2 hours of material, the turnaround shouldn’t be affected (subject to scheduling).
If you have 10 hours of material, then it will take at least 1 1/2 to 2 days just to finish all the dubbing. Remember, dubbing is a real time process and while we’re open about 9 hours a day, we can really only dub about 5 to 6 hours of material per day because we have other things to do as well.
If you have a large order and need quick turnaround on the transcripts, it would be best to send us digital video file dubs already made, that way we can get right on with the transcription. Large duplicating houses can dub all your tapes very quickly. We recommend Lightning Dubs in Burbank.
Maximum Length for Duplication to DVD for Transcription
The longest length we will create for any one DVD is 2 hours. Tapes longer than 2 hours each will be split over multiple DVDs
Shipping
All orders containing DV or DVCAM tapes will be returned at a Priority Mail or higher level of service. "Bulk" rate shipping is not offered on this type of service. We recommend that you use Fed Ex for returning your clones as well as the DVD dubs.
